Education for All Ages

The final day of Sunday Church School was June 3rd.  As we enter these summer months, our Sunday School takes a break, but will begin again in September.

All children K4 thru 6th grade are welcome to join us.  Friends and neighbors are also very welcome!

We want to thank all of our teachers and assistants for the great work they do!

The staff had a super year with both Bible stories and games, crafts, and outings.  We love to see all of our SCS families take part in these great activities. ______________________________________________________________________________________________

Instruction classes are held each spring for those children turning 10 years of age in a given year. Pastor Fred meets with the students and parents for a series of classes to study God's meal for his family, the sacrament of Holy  Communion. The children traditionally receive their First Holy Communion on Maundy Thursday.

The Confirmation Program consists of a two-year program of study, worship, and service for seventh and eighth grade students. The curriculum covers an overview of the books of the Bible, Lutheran church history and doctrine, and Luther's Small Catechism, so that a basic knowledge of the Creeds, the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, and the Sacraments is achieved.

Our students meet on Thursday evenings, September - May. They serve as acolytes at all of our Worship Services.

Time is also spent in a variety of group service projects and fellowship events so that all are reminded that they are an integral part of the Christian community.  They are encouraged to make their faith a part of their day-to-day life.  A highlight each year is the Confirmation class retreat in Wisconsin Dells.

The service of Confirmation is held for 8th graders who have completed all the requirements in the Spring of each year.

Our Adult Forum is led by Pastor Fred. We discuss a variety of topics.

Past topics have included:

  • Our mission in Tanzania
  • The history of the Lutheran Church
  • A presentation and discussion by our County Supervisor pertaining to neighborhood issues.
  • Discussion of the movie, "The Passion of the Christ"

There are other additional educational opportunities throughout the year, including evening Bible study sessions.

Jackson Park Church encourages and supports a lifelong journey to grow our faith, beginning with our children.  You and your child will be welcomed here.  Families need not be members of Jackson Park Church to enroll their children in Sunday School.  In this place, our children are not merely instructed in the faith, they are embraced and immersed in the faith community and in the faith story we all share.
